PIANO TUITION POLICY - GEORGES SOKOL BA (Oxon) ARCM

My lessons are fun, challenging, and meet the particular needs of the student. I teach pupils of all ages; some of my students are competition winners, others are complete beginners. I specialise in teaching advanced players and piano teachers, but also take on motivated adults and musically gifted children.

Learning to play the piano can provide a lifetime of joy and a feeling of personal accomplishment. It is a highly enriching and rewarding activity. It is also one that requires dedication and discipline. My teaching philosophy emphasizes initiative and self-direction. My policy reflects these values.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My Primary Goals

•  I teach students how to learn.

•  I match my teaching to the student's learning style (and not the other way round).

•  I motivate my students by empowering them and introducing possibilities.

My Interaction with Students

•  I will never be angry if you make a mistake.

•  I will never be angry if you ask a question.

•  I will only be upset if you do not try. If you do not try, I cannot teach you.

•  If you do not understand, it is my fault, not yours.

My Foundations

•  Piano lessons should be fun.

•  Trying is often more important than succeeding.

•  Piano study is not always going to be easy, but it should be satisfying.

•  Exploration and creativity is encouraged.

TEACHING BIOGRAPHY

Having taught over 230 students, I have gained the experience to adapt my teaching method to the student's individual learning ability in such a way that notable results are achieved in a very short period of time.

I am a Full Member of the European Piano Teachers Association and am officially registered with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music as an Examination Applicant. All my students who have taken practical exams have passed, most of them with Distinction (100% pass rate). One of my young students won a Music scholarship to Winchester College. Some of my students have won competitions, performed in prestigious venues and on national TV, and been offered places to study at eminent institutions.

I was awarded a diploma in piano performance from the Royal College of Music, before graduating with Honours in Music at Oxford University. I have won numerous prizes including exhibition awards and top scholarships. I was taught by world-renowned pianists and conductors, and have performed in the USA, France, Vienna, and UK.
